When is the best time to take the SAT?

The SAT is offered at Allegany High School. Most students take the SAT for the first time during the spring of their junior year and a second time during the fall of their senior year. The registration fee is $47.50, or $64.50 with the essay.

The ACT is given at Allegany College of Maryland six times during the school year. The test fee is $50.50, or $67 if you also take the writing portion of the test.


Just like the SAT, the PSAT includes two sections—Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and Math—comprised of three tests: Reading, Writing & Language, and Math. There is no Essay.

Most students take the PSAT at their high school in the fall of their sophomore or junior year. Ask a teacher or school counselor when the test will be offered at your school and how to sign up.
