Live Righteously

Calvary Christian Academy is a distinctly Christian school, designed primarily to help the average or above-average child. It is not a remedial school nor a correctional school, nor is it equipped to handle all children (e.g., handicapped, severe learning disabled). We reserve the right to place each child in the academic level for which we believe he/she is best suited.

The student’s acceptance into the school will be based upon our ability to meet his/her needs. That determination will be made from information on the application form, information from his previous school(s), the student/parent interview, and other means that will help us properly evaluate the child to determine his academic, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

Each new student and his/her parent(s) must be interviewed before a student is officially enrolled. We seek opportunities to share the gospel with both parent and child.

Who We Are

For 50 years, Calvary Christian Academy has been providing parents of the Western Maryland region an opportunity to place their children in a quality academic program that is Christ-centered.

Calvary Christian Academy received full accreditation from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) for grades K-12 in 1995, and currently holds dual accreditation with ACSI and the Middle States Association (MSA) of Colleges and Schools. The academy commits itself to academic excellence by maintaining a qualified and dedicated staff. All permanent, full-time teachers are hired possessing educational degrees, and several members of the current faculty hold their master's degree. Over 95% of the faculty are certified through the rigid standards of ACSI.

In the preschool years, CCA students are introduced to the basic concepts of reading and math. Using a wide variety of stimulating, teacher-directed activities, the young child begins academic preparation. Letters and phonic sound recognition, as well as initial number concepts, are introduced in a motivating environment of play activities that also teach important values such as integrity, responsibility, kindness, and sharing. Throughout the kindergarten and elementary grades, significant blocks of learning are added to these language and math foundations. Science, spelling, social studies, creative writing, penmanship, art, music, physical education, and Bible are added to provide a well-rounded curriculum.

At the middle and high school levels, the emphasis shifts toward academic skills preparation for college. A curriculum of study that includes offerings of Bible, English and literature, social studies, science, foreign language, math, physical education, and fine arts. Athletic programs, as well as other extracurricular activities, enhance the students' program of study. K-11 students are assessed every other year through the use of the TerraNova3 nationally normed test.

Students are encouraged to participate in various competitions such as art fair, speech meet, and creative writing through the ACSI. Students have also participated in the Voice of Democracy speech and essay contest and other local competitions and programs.

Technology is used to give students the skills they need for life. The science classes use a lab to enhance their learning. Athletic programs include boys' basketball, baseball, soccer, and bowling; and girls' basketball, volleyball, soccer, and bowling. Competition involves other Christian schools, as well as some local public schools. A full-sized gymnasium is located on campus, and local playing fields are available for athletic activities. A daily hot lunch program is available.

Calvary Christian Academy strives to lay a strong biblical foundation to inspire each student to become a follower of Jesus Christ. A young person who is rooted and nourished in God's principles will be able to stand firm in the storms of life. Students are challenged to set high goals of accountability in their moral and personal lives. They are also taught the spiritual discipline of thinking like a Christian by recognizing the Bible as the only source of absolute truth and by having every phase of school life and studies integrated with a biblical perspective.
